DEXTRA SMART JUNCTION POLE
Amiraj Charitable Trust Established, Amiraj College of Engineering and Technology in the year 2012. The College is approved by AICTE and GTU as well as ISO 9001:2008 certified. With currently 750 students studying Engineering in five different branches namely Civil, Mechanical, Computer, Electrical and EC.The institute currently is focusing on Science beyond Engineering by providing exclusive Skill development training programs for its existing students.
In Amiraj We have “Amiraj Research & Development Cell” (ARDC). Under this cell last year in Dextra 2015 we came with the idea of Amiraj Dextra Smart Driverless mobile application run car which is done by faculty and student team. In Amiraj Dextra 2016 ARDC has introduced Amiraj Dextra Smart Junction Pole which is India’s first Smart Street Light with various features. This little idea has triggered its shots at a larger platform. The out of the box idea, of innovations, of enhancement is at the roots of the various ongoing projects at Amiraj and the one major innovation that we are going to talk about Phase-1 of Amiraj Dextra Smart Junction Pole.
Here we have designed Smart Junction Pole which is presented by Amiraj College of Engineering and Technology. A smart city is defined as the ability to integrate multiple technological solutions in a secure fashion to manage the city’s assets. The goal of building a smart city is to improve the quality of life by using technology to improve the efficiency of services and meet residents’ needs. The idea of this project can be implemented in many big cities, where most of the street lights are consuming useful power. If we talk about the structure of pole then we can say that the pole has a movable structure with locking wheel concepts. The solar panel of the pole is adjustable so we can adjust it in all the directions. It is facilitate with storage cabin which helps to store anything like instruments, cables, etc.

Now we will discuss about these smart features in detail.
1. Solar Street Light
Solar street lights are raised light sources which are powered by photovoltaic panels generally mounted on the lighting structure or integrated in the pole itself. The photovoltaic panels charge a rechargeable battery, which powers a fluorescent or LED lamp during the night. Latest designs use wireless technology for battery management. The street lights using this technology can operate as a network with each light having the capability of performing on or off the network. In this Smart Junction Pole we are using solar panel so with the use of solar energy we can run the pole and charge electronic devices.
2. Solar Charger
With the use of solar charging point we can charge the electronic devices so in emergency traffic police, passengers etc. can charge very easily. It is used for constant charging and discharging of battery. Also PV and battery are isolated with each other. It works on the principal of PWM.
3. Energy Saving Lighting system
We have circuit which is connected with the LED Light which can make the light off for day and on for night. By using LDR sensor we can keep LED light to be in OFF position. So we can save solar energy for future use.
4. Motion Detector
With the help of IR Motion sensor light will be on when any motion is detected which is fitted in the pole which can sense the movement of vehicles or person and work accordingly. In present scenario at junctions lights are on during the late light though there is no traffic, because of these lots of energy is wasted but by this system we are not only controlling the traffic but also saving the energy smartly for the future generation..
5. Face Recognition
Security of human is a main aim in smart city. So as per the smart city concept we have introduce this feature. A facial recognition system is a computer application capable of identifying or verifying a person from a digital image or a video frame from a video source. In our project the camera is attached to the pole of the smart street light, with a push to talk system. Any unidentified / identified person will come to the pole and press the push to talk button, then the call will directly go to the server of our system. The administrator will start the recognition system, if the person’s details are already there in the system then system will recognize the person and speak name of the person, it also saves the image of that person with date and time. If the person is not recognized the administrator can add the detail of that person for future use. The system will work like this, and with the use of this system we can find the missing person very easily which is are main aim.
6. Emergency Help
As mention above in Face recognition, if any unidentified / identified person will come to the pole and press on push to talk button then call will directly go to the control room and administrator will start recognition system, and with the use of this system person will get the help in emergency.
7. Smart Traffic Calculation
In our project we have designed one image processing algorithm in MATLAB software to identify density of traffic. In which one reference image compare current traffic image and finding density of traffic will be evaluated. System will give the input to the Timer counter. System will reorganize high and low traffic and work accordingly.
• Image is acquired from the pre existing pole through the camera, after getting the image, image processing is done with the help of image algorithm.
• image algorithm will determine the image density and according to that we can estimate either high traffic or low traffic
8. Timer Counter
Traffic calculation system will give input to the timer counter. If the traffic is high then counter will start from 49 seconds and in low it will start from 99 seconds.
9. Traffic Signals
Traffic signal work accordingly the input of time counter. In heavy traffic , Red signal will stop the traffic for 49 seconds. Yellow signal will glow at 9 second which will alert traffic. And green signal will allow to pass the traffic for 24 seconds. Same for low traffic but here red signal will continue for 99 seconds.
Connectivity is a very necessary elements in smart city. So here we have introduced HotSpot is a local area wireless computer networking technology that allows electronic devices to
connect to the network. Many devices can use hot spot, e.g. personal computers, video-game consoles, smart phones, digital cameras, tablet computers and digital audio players. These can connect to a network resource such as the Internet via a wireless network access point. Such an access point(or hotspot) has a range of about 20 meters (66 feet) indoors and a greater range outdoors. Hotspot coverage can be as small as a single room with walls that block radio waves, or as large as many square kilometers achieved by using multiple overlapping access points.
Two successful projects are done. But that’s not it for students and faculties of Amiraj College of Engineering and Technology. We at Amiraj keep going on with the innovation. In future we are coming with phase-2 of this project. In which we are including some more features like face recoganization system for criminals, smart grid traffic system for whole city, timer counter for all cross road, more sensors system for lighting system.
